Secretary’s Report: December 2015 Board Meeting Minutes

Present:  Lisa Fuller, Rob Hammond, Ellen Higdon, Harvey Johnson. Also present:  Dave Sara and Renee Kauffman.

Opening words by Lisa.

Consent Agenda approved unanimously.

**Direct mail report is still needed from Tom Hackley.

REPORTS:

R.E Report:  A list of new adult RE curriculum ideas was presented.  A survey will be presented on-line to check for interest.

Lisa mentioned the need to go to # and have RE join the greater conversation on-line.

Treasurer’s Report:  Saving money via Comcast.  Insurance deductible increased to save us money also.

Office Admin report:   Job descriptions have been approved by Board.  Lisa will post via Web-announce, website and Facebook.  Lisa will check into posting on St. Joseph Today and LMC as well.  Monthly cap at 40 hours/month.

Jim’s contract was completed.

Child-care job Posting – Ellen will check into posting at the Y, Dave to post job at LMC.

CoM Report: No meeting, no report.

New Business:

State of the Fellowship Ideas

Renee to coordinate with Lisa on the State of the Fellowship meeting, perhaps the first Sunday in Jan., 2016 to have a potluck meal first.  Membership committee needs to be peopled.  Getting people to sign up for committees via postings at the meeting and perhaps in the building.  Re-capping our progress and encouraging people to participate.

Benton Harbor Street Ministry Literacy Outreach:  There was of interest in setting up a program. This will be addressed at the State of the Fellowship Meeting.

Discussion Ideas:

Pathway to Membership – What are the steps to make prospective members into real members.

Possible Language, “If you are interested in becoming a Voting Member, receiving UU World, and”.

New member nametags; different colors for members, and voting member,   Member since ……  voting member since….

Visitor follow-up:  Visitor fills out a form.  Lisa responds via email, Dave follows up if RE is selected, Jim follows up via phone call within 1 week.  BUUF announce is offered.

Idea to follow-up with children who age into membership.

General  Ideas discussed

Honor a member at a service, talk about contributions to BUUF, community, etc..

Pledge dinner (end of April) to be a culmination of reaching our pledge goals.  March kick-off for pledge drive.

Each week a member could talk briefly about what BUUF means to him/her.

Educational signs posted about the fellowship as to what e.g. R.E. means.

List posted as to what items people can donate, posted in the kitchen.

Religious Leaders Report

Jim will be gone late March, possible in April.  He will get his service time covered.

Do we want concealed gun permit person(s) to bring a weapon into the Fellowship?  We will discuss in Jan.

Jim asked how his sermon titles changes are put on the computer.  Lisa will be added to his OOS email list, so she can change the titles.

Christmas Eve Service  5:30 pm for less than 1 hour;  a few words cookies, songs,.
