Differences like skin color, culture, sexual orientation, and gender are more and more recognized and celebrated. As Unitarian Universalists, we aim to be all inclusive. Now, we want to bring awareness to another difference that many of us live with – neurodiversity. Neurodiversity is a broad term that includes, but is not limited to, autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorders, and even some brains that have endured head trauma. Anyone that has a condition that allows them to learn, process, and function outside of the medical neurotypical model would be considered a neurodiverse person. We all learn differently, even if you don’t take into account people that identify with a non-typical brain. On August 11, we are exploring this concept that neurological differences are recognized and respected as any other human variation.
