This Sunday, November 3rd, we will examine how the fear of our own deaths affects us psychologically, spiritually and socially. In his sermon, “Woody Allen, The Epic of Gilgamesh, and The Day of the Dead,” Rev. Jim McConnell will examine some of humanity’s strategies for dealing with death. He will also discuss how dealing with our fear of death has put us on an evolutionary trajectory that has propelled Humanity to achievements far beyond any other species on this planet, including some very good achievements and some that are very bad. Will the denial and fear of death propel us even further up an evolutionary path or will it lead to our ultimate destruction as a species? All this sounds quite depressing. It is not. This will be a service of hope.
Additionally, the BUUf Musicians will bring us their usual feast of good music, Vanessa Crenshaw will tell “The Story for All Ages,” Nan Lundeen will bring us a poem, and Joan Guilfoyle will be our reader.
