Mindfulness Workshop: "Wheel of the Year"

For this week’s mindfulness workshop, we will be adding to our wheel of the year and celebrating Summer Solstice.  This will be the last Sabbat on this year’s wheel! Hope you can join us in person at BUUF. We will be ending no later than 11:30 for those who wish to attend the Junteenth celebrations in Benton Harbor.

The Wheel of the Year is an ancient method whereby Northern agrarian societies marked the turning of the seasons.

You will need: Current Wheel of the Year or if not yet created: paper or primed canvas/board.  Other craft materials like: paint, marker, pencil, coloring pencils. If you have not been fully vaccinated, please wear a mask.

Builder’s Challenge for RE Kids: “Education Accessibility”
Jun 20 @ 11:30 am – 12:00 pm
Builder's Challenge for RE Kids: "Education Accessibility"

We will continue our challenge, Education Accessibility. Here are some things to think about:

Education Accessibility:

Lifelong education is so important but not everybody has equal access to education. Affordability, disabilities and differences in ways people learn are all stumbling blocks for access to education. How can we address these issues in our towns?

Things to keep in mind when building your town:

  • Where do people learn in your community?
  • What sort of things can they learn, is there a variety of things to learn?
  • Are there various learning styles?
  • How do you address the costs of education?
  • Does everyone have access to education regardless of their age or ability?
  • Can they get tutoring help if they need it?

Builder’s Challenge for RE Kids: “Wrap-Up”
Jun 20 @ 11:30 am – 12:00 pm
Builder's Challenge for RE Kids: "Wrap-Up"

We will be meeting in person and on Zoom to wrap up the RE Builder’s Challenge Program. Kids come show off your towns and briefly learn about three more important challenges, healthcare equity, religious diversity & social justice.

Healthcare

  • How hard is it to see a doctor in your town, what if you didn’t have a car?
  • If someone is unemployed and can’t afford it, can they see a doctor? What if they need an expensive surgery?
  • How do people keep healthy? Exercise, eating?

Religious Diversity

  • How do people practice spirituality in your town?
  • Are there multiple houses of worship, if so what are they?
  • Do people ever have conflicts from different religions? If so, how are the conflicts resolved or handled?

Social Justice

  • How is your town welcoming for people of all different nationalities, sexual orientations and gender identities or skin colors
  • What happens if or when people of different groups don’t get along?
  • How do you protect vulnerable people?
