Sunday Service: "Speaking of God" @ Zoom Meeting
This Sunday, April 26th, we continue with our Theme-of-the-Month, “The Sacred.” In his sermon, “Speaking of God,” Rev. Jim McConnell will talk about some of the ways our species has created to talk and think about our intuitions of a greater power. He will also devote some time to showing how sacred stories, which while not historically true, are important sign posts that point to the most important elements of Being Human. Additionally, Jim Gehring will bring us a poem, Beth La Fleur will tell the Story for all Ages, Lisa Fuller will lead us in The Fabric of Life ceremony, Nico Rojas will be our reader, the BUUF musicians will select music, and Candice Elders will bring us a musical benediction.
If you have wondered what words like theism, pantheism, polytheism, nature mysticism, panentheism, atheism, or humanism mean, this might be the service for you as you seek to understand your own intuitions of the sacred dimension of your life.
The service will be conducted over Zoom. The Zoom link, Meeting ID and password will be sent out on Saturday with the emailed Order of Service. Please check your inbox! If you don’t receive the Order of Service by end of day Saturday, please email Joanne Krettek at office@berrienuu.org or call her at 269-612-8886.
“Do you, good people, believe that Adam and Eve were created in the Garden of Eden and that they were forbidden to eat from the tree of knowledge? I do. The church has always been afraid of that tree. It still is afraid of knowledge. Some of you say religion makes people happy. So does laughing gas. So does whiskey. I believe in the brain of man.”
