Sunday Service: "LGBTQ History" @ Berrien Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

BUUF’s Welcoming Congregation Committee is focusing on LGBTQ history for this service. To limit the subject, members of the committee have selected a specific topic to present. Brett Maccani will serve as service leader and his topic is Dr. Evelyn Hooker. You may not have heard of Dr. Hooker, but the results of her research enabled a scientific understanding of homosexuality.

Dorothy Long will present a bit of local history, the creation of the YWCA Out and Affirmation Center that became the OutCenter in 2009. Julie Williams will help us know and appreciate gay composers. Charles Long will say a bit about Elsa Gidlow and read her poem “Grey Thread.” He will also provide a Story for All Ages about different abilities and friendship. Katharine Lion will share excerpts from “A Queer History of the United States” by Michael Bronski. Beth La Fleur, BUUF’s new music director, has selected music for the occasion.

Those on our Order of Service distribution list will receive an Order of Service email on Saturday with the Zoom login details. If you are not on this list and would like to attend virtually, please email office@berrienuu.org for Zoom information. Or simply join us in person! There will be an RE class for children during the latter half of the service focused on our seventh principle, respect for the interdependent web of all existence.
