On January 10th, Rev. Barbara F. Meyers, author of the book “Held,” will be delivering our sermon: “Held – Showing Up for Each Other’s Mental Health” and leading us in Circle Talk. This service will be especially helpful for those of us who have experienced depression or mental health issues or who have loved ones who have experienced such difficulties. The service is open to the public and we hope you will invite others to attend, learn and (if desired) participate during Circle Talk.
Rev. Barbara F. Meyers is a Unitarian Universalist community minister with a mental health ministry based in Fremont, California. She is assistant director of the Life Reaching Across to Life peer support center, the author of a mental health curriculum for congregations, and the book “Held – Showing Up for each Other’s Mental Health” published by Skinner House Books in July 2020. She is the President of the UU Mental Health Network.
Rev. Meyers served on the UUA’s Accessibility Committee beginning in 2005, and was active in the creation of EqUUal Access. She served on the UUMA’s Task Force on Disability in 2017-2018. She was active in the creation of the AIM program to make congregations accessible and inclusive of disability.
Prior to her ministry work she spent 25 years as a computer software engineer at IBM. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, and a Master’s and PhD in Computer Science all from UCLA, and a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Chaplaincy Institute in Berkeley.
