Sunday Service: "Blessing of the Backpacks" @ Berrien Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

It’s back-to-school week for most of our children in Southwest Michigan. Some of our adults may have started classes recently, too! That means it’s time to “bless” the real and metaphorical backpacks we all take into the world with us.

This Sunday, September 5th is our annual “Blessing of the Backpacks” service. Adults and children are encouraged to bring their backpacks to the service to be blessed and to receive a special reminder of UU principles that they can carry with them. Even if your children have not been attending services over the summer, this Sunday is a great week for them to attend and celebrate the return to school with their fellow RE participants.

In his sermon, “What’s in Your Backpack?” Rev. Jim McConnell explores some important items that everyone should have in their metaphorical backpacks.  Additionally, Nancy Gilpin will sit in the Poet’s Corner, Dr. Clark Gilpin will bring an original reading, the BUUF musicians will have more great music for us, and our interim DRE, Joanne Krettek, will have a special ceremony for the Blessing the Backpacks. Join in person or by Zoom.
