Sunday Service: “Humor and the Human Spirit”
July 22, 10:30 am – 11:30 am

Sunday Service: "Humor and the Human Spirit" @ Berrien Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

Feminist Author, Anne Wilson Schaef said, “I realize that humor isn’t for everyone. It’s only for people who want to have fun, enjoy life, and feel alive.”

If you enjoy humor, join us this Sunday, July 22nd, for a celebration of International Joke Day (July 1st).  The theme of the service will be Humor and the Human Spirit.  John Tusciuk and David LaFleur (two very funny guys) will share their views on humor and spirit. Julie Williams and Jaryn Ruggless will tell the funniest jokes they have ever heard. Jaquline Czajka will tell the Story for All Ages, and Rev. Jim McConnell will bring a brief message titled, “Pulling the Rug Out.”

Come.  Have some Fun.

Environmental Justice Film Series: “FLOW: For Love Of Water”
Thursday, July 19, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join us on Thursday, July 19, at 7:00 PM for a FREE film on the world water crisis. Nearly two million people die each year from water-borne diseases worldwide. The root causes of this crisis range from pesticide and chemical runoff, to simply not having access to clean water due to economic or political factors. The film won the Grand Jury Award at the Mumbai International Film Festival and the Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary at the United Nations Film Festival. The film is 93 minutes, and after we watch it we’ll have a discussion about what actions we can take on water justice and other environmental justice issues. This film is hosted by Berrien UU Board Member Harvey Johnson. Admission is free and open to the public. Bring a beverage and enjoy the free popcorn! Doors open at 6:30 PM. See you there!

Welcoming Congregation Committee Meeting
Sunday, July 22, 9:00 am – 10:00 am

Welcoming Congregation Committee Meeting @ Berrien Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

The Welcoming Congregation Committee has scheduled its next committee meeting for July 22 at 9 AM. According to Dave Sarra, Committee Chair: “The UUA designated BUUF as a Welcoming Congregation in 2006 and recommends re-certification every five years – so we’re long overdue! Being designated a Welcoming Congregation means that the members of our fellowship are aware of the anger, indignities, mistreatment, crimes committed against and laws passed against members of the LGBTQ community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, and sometimes I – Intersexual, A – Asexual, P – Pansexual/Polygamous, and others). We work with our local OutCenter to right these wrongs and we provide a welcoming safe haven for members of the LGBTQ community. If you would like to join our committee to re-certify BUUF as a Welcoming Congregation, please join us this Sunday, July 22, at BUUF at 9 AM.” Please email questions to office@BerrienUU.org and these will get forwarded to Dave.
