Joys and Sorrows

---

Rev. Jim and Patty McConnell are enjoying a two-week tour of Russia this month. We wish them a fun and safe vacation! While they are out-of-town, BUUF volunteers will be leading the services, including Tracie Crenshaw on August 11th (on the topic of "Neurodiversity) and Gretchen Ohmann on August 18th (on the topic of "UU General Assembly").

We were happy to receive a new case of toilet paper, donated to BUUF by Michelle McHale. Thank you, Michelle!

Many thanks to Gretchen Ohmann, who uploaded numerous musical resources to BUUF's dropbox, including a PowerPoint lyrics folder, a BUUF Hymnals and Songbooks database, BUUF sheet music and more. In addition, Nan Lundeen and Gretchen recently spent an afternoon inventorying music at BUUF, getting things in order for our future music director!

To share your joys and sorrows with the larger BUUF community send an email to Office@BerrienUU.org or contact Rev. Jim McConnell at Minister@BerrienUU.org or 574-229-6536.

Sunday Service: "Recognizing and Celebrating Neurodiversity"

Sunday Service: "Recognizing and Celebrating Neurodiversity"

August 11, 10:30am - 11:30am

Differences like skin color, culture, sexual orientation, and gender are more and more recognized and celebrated. As Unitarian Universalists, we aim to be all inclusive. Now, we want to bring awareness to another difference that many of us live with – neurodiversity. Neurodiversity is a broad term that includes, but is not limited to, autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorders, and even some brains that have endured head trauma. Anyone that has a condition that allows them to learn, process, and function outside of the medical neurotypical model would be considered a neurodiverse person. We all learn differently, even if you don’t take into account people that identify with a non-typical brain. On August 11, we are exploring this concept that neurological differences are recognized and respected as any other human variation.

Gardening with Harvey at the Fresh Start Children's Garden

Gardening with Harvey at the Fresh Start Children's Garden

Thursdays,

5:00pm - 7:00pm

The Fresh Start Children’s Garden led by Emma Kinnard is in its 13th year. The garden is run as a not-for-profit with a board of directors, and volunteers from many organizations help keep it running. BUUF members have volunteered since the spring of 2017 to help weed, plant and harvest vegetables.

The BUUF Green Sanctuary volunteers are again partnering with the Fresh Start Children’s Garden. BUUF volunteers will assist children with harvesting, weeding, building and maintenance of the gardens located at 1104 May Street in Benton Harbor (map).

Gardening sessions are each Thursday from 5pm-7pm. Any time is appreciated. Stop by and see Harvey Johnson (269-470-1470), who will try to make it to all sessions.
