Joys and Sorrows

---

What a joy it was to arrive at BUUF on Sunday and see the redbud and pink dogwood trees in full bloom and two new 4'x'8 raised garden beds behind the parking lot! Many thanks to Harvey Johnson, Diane Gibbons, Sandy Walker and all others who helped make this possible! In the meantime, Rachel Reed and Jaryn Ruggless were dropping off gardening supplies and seedlings to plant in the garden. During RE class, Rachel worked with the children on creating seed tape for the garden. And before the Sunday service, Harvey Johnson was out front planting sunflower seeds. We are going to have beautiful grounds this year!

Five BUUF members (Dennis and Ellen Higdon and David, Beth and Helena La Fleur) are starring in the Twin City Players' upcoming musical comedy production of The Addams Family. The show runs from June 7 - 30, and some BUUFers are looking into buying discounted group tickets to see the show. If you are interested in joining them, please email office@berrienuu.org

Persephone Tusciuk was happy to report that she ran a 5k within the past week. Congratulations, Persephone!

Mary Lou Elson and June Blackwell shared what a lovely time they had at the BUUF Book Club meeting last week. They said there was a lively discussion, and host Julie Williams served several delicious refreshments!

We were saddened to hear that Julie's cousin passed away recently. Julie said paying for health care was a big concern for the family.

June is happy to be attending her granddaughter's wedding in Florida this week!

Finally, several BUUFers thoroughly enjoyed the 60th Anniversary Pilgrimage that Lisa Fuller planned and led Sunday after the service. We visited three former BUUF locations, learned a little about each and sang a hymn to guitar music played by Jim Dalgleish

To share your joys and sorrows with the larger BUUF community send an email to Office@BerrienUU.org or contact Rev. Jim McConnell at Minister@BerrienUU.org or 574-229-6536.

Sunday Service: "If I Had a Super Power..."

Sunday Service:

"If I Had a Super Power..."

Sunday, May 26,
10:30
am - 11:30am

This Sunday, May 26th is Super Power Sunday. Rev. Jim McConnell’s sermon is titled “If I Had a Super Power,” in which he will reveal his super power. Nico Rojas, David La Fleur, and Ellen Higdon will imagine with us what they would do if they had a super power. Gloria Weberg will be leading us in the Fabric of Life Ceremony, and Oliver and Lois will help us open the service. Terry Sundstrom will read the Story for All Ages. Janice Zerfas will bring us a poem. Beth La Fleur will be on the piano, and the BUUF Musicians will bring us a musical number.

This may sound like a jokey topic. It is not. How would you change the world if you had a super power? There will be a time in the service when anyone attending can share their own super power.

Come, share, and maybe change the world a bit. What if each of us already possesses a super power?

Rev. Jim McConnell has ordered new, attractive, well-insulated windows for our BUUF building. All windows will be replaced, using endowment funds approved at our 2018 annual meeting. So Much Creativity to Enjoy!

We are always happy to feature artwork, poetry and other creations by our members and friends. This week we are posting links to poetry written by Lisa Quinlan and Ralph Heibutzki, who participated in our recent Mindfulness through Poetry workshop; artwork created by BUUF children in RE class; and an essay and poetry by author Nan Lundeen, posted on the Patheos website. Please see the links below...

The next workshop will be June 15th, led by Tracie Crenshaw, subject to …

Calling All Mowing Volunteers!

Spring is here and BUUF's large lawn is growing quickly. Please help with keeping the lawn trimmed, tidy and inviting to all. We'll soon be posting a sign-up sheet in the kitchen area for interested volunteers. Trimming the lawn is easy and relaxing using BUUF's electric-powered, rechargeable, self-propelled mower. If you're not sure how to work the mower, just ask Harvey Johnson, our Green Sanctuary Committee Chair, for a brief lesson!
