Joys and Sorrows

---

Thanks to all who helped prepare and serve a hearty lunchtime meal at the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen on Saturday. Thanks also to those who donated Girl Scout cookies for Lois Sundstrom to individually offer to soup kitchen guests, along with a big hug. Our team's efforts were very much appreciated by guests, who responded with thanks and big smiles. In April, Helena La Fleur will be distributing a second batch of Girl Scout cookies at the Soup Kitchen.

Congratulations to Candace Onweller's two grandchildren who each received a 1 rating recently for their solo ensemble! And congratulations to BUUF member Janice Zerfas, whose poem won a Tuscon Literary Festival award!

It was wonderful seeing Dave Sarra walking around BUUF over the weekend. You would have no idea he recently underwent hip replacement surgery.

We keep BUUF member Randy Kooyers and his family in our thoughts during this difficult time. If you would like to reach out to Randy or his family in support, please contact Rev. Jim McConnell or BUUF President Lisa Fuller. Many thanks to those who have already provided care in terms of transportation, child care, resource suggestions and more. We have a very loving fellowship that pulls together in times of crisis.

Congratulations to Rev. Jim McConnell and his wife Patty on their 47th wedding anniversary this week!

And finally, thanks to everyone who stayed after service on Sunday to participate in planning for BUUF's 60th Anniversary Celebration and/or the State of the Fellowship meeting.

Pictured below are Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen volunteers preparing to say grace.

To share your joys and sorrows with the larger BUUF community send an email to Office@BerrienUU.org or contact Rev. Jim McConnell at Minister@BerrienUU.org or 574-229-6536.

Creative Conversations: "Humanitarian Crisis in Venezuela"

Creative Conversations:
"Humanitarian Crisis in Venezuela"

Wednesday, February 27, 7:00pm - 9:00pm

There is a humanitarian crisis in Venezuela happening right now. Over 1 million Venezuelans have crossed the border into Colombia, Vox is calling it the Border of Unity. While in our country we continue to talk about building walls to keep those seeking asylum OUT, Colombia is welcoming the Venezuelans IN, in large numbers. They are providing food, clothing, shelter, …

Year-End Tax Statements Available

BUUF Bookkeeper Dorothy Long has printed year-end tax statements for regular contributors. She handed out several statements at Sunday's service and the remaining are available for pick-up. If you need to have your statement mailed to you, please email Dorothy at bookkeeper@berrienuu.org. By handing out the majority of statements versus mailing them, we are able to minimize the cost of postage. Thank you, Dorothy, for making these available.

Help Us Celebrate Upcoming Anniversaries with Your Creative Talents!

The special ingredient that makes BUUF's services so meaningful and pleasant every week is the combined contribution of its members, from the poetry to the readings to the music. Our fellowship is endowed with an abundance of creative talent! We have accomplished poets, writers, artists, musicians, quilters, builders, designers and more in our midst! Please help us make our anniversary services this year even more remarkable than our regular Sunday services by contributing your talent. We are looking for BUUFers who are willing to contribute personalized poems, hymns, stories, art, skits and other creations for these services. Submissions should specifically honor either BUUF or Rev. Jim McConnell in any way that is meaningful to you. Please direct your submissions to Dave Sarra, Anniversary Celebration Planning Chair, or Joanne Krettek, Office Administrator. And as a reminder, here are the dates of our anniversary services:

• Sunday, April 28: Diamond Anniversary Sunday Service honoring our fellowship's 60th anniversary

• Sunday, May 5: Minister Sunday celebrating Rev. Jim McConnell's 10th year as our religious leader
