Celebrating PRIDE

“Do not allow people to dim your shine because they are blinded. Tell them to put on some sunglasses, because we were born this way.”

Lady Gaga
This Sunday we will be celebrating PRIDE month, which commemorates the ongoing struggle for LGBTQ civil rights, as well as the accomplishments of LGBTQ individuals. Our featured guest speaker is Willow Sipling (they/them) from the OutCenter. Willow’s presentation will be followed by a brief sermonette from Rev. Jim McConnell. Peter Tortorello will both light and extinguish our chalice. Peter has also donated a book for the Story for All Ages: “We Are a Rainbow! The Colors of PRIDE,” which will be read by DRE Rachel Reed. Come help us celebrate all who identify as LGBTQ within our fellowship and the wider community, as well as their supporters and allies.

Willow Sipling

Willow (They/Them/Any/All) is development and communications coordinator for OutCenter Southwest Michigan. Willow harnesses 14 years of experience in comms and management to focus expertise on strategic HR practices, executive coaching, and organizational culture design.
Willow holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, two master’s degrees in humanities, and has credentials and certifications in ethics, DEI, conflict resolution, productivity, and workplace investigations, and is also a Disciplined Agile Scrum Master and Six Sigma Green Belt. They are also a sociology PhD student at WMU.
