An eye-opening expose of the modern food industry, Food, Inc. is both fascinating and terrifying, and essential viewing for any health-conscious citizen. Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment.  Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield Farms’ Gary Hirschberg and Polyface Farms’ Joe Salatin, “Food, Inc.” reveals surprising–and often shocking truths–about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here. The movie is about 90 min. long, and after we watch it we’ll have a discussion about what actions we can all take on this important issue.

Volunteers Needed!

Prior to our fundraising concert this Friday, May 19th, we need helpers to come setup before the event, and to stay after to help with cleanup. If you are willing to assist, please email Lisa Fuller at president@BerrienUU.org, or just show up at BUUF around 4 or 5 on Friday. Thank you!

Social Justice Committee Meeting

Social Justice Committee Invitation! We are inviting voting members of BUUF to join our Social Justice Committee (formerly CO/SA – Community Outreach/Social Action Committee) to make some very important financial decisions! We need to decide how we’d like to use our endowment income for next year. We will meet in the RE room after the service this Sunday, May 21, to prepare our proposal which will be voted on by the fellowship at the Annual Meeting (June 4). Any BUUFer who would like to join this committee and have a say in the process is welcome to participate! If you’re a first-timer, we’ll bring you up to speed on how we’ve used our endowment income in the past.
