Dear Berrien UU members and friends,
Consider these familiar words: “This Fellowship is the community of our selves. Its resources are our resources. Its wealth is what we share. As we contribute to the life of this community, we affirm our lives within it.”
As we prepare for the new church year in July, the Rev. Jim McConnell and Berrien Unitarian Universalist Fellowship board of trustees ask you to consider BUUF’s role in your life, discern how you can affirm your life within it, and commit to supporting the fellowship and its mission in 2018-2019.
BUUF is a certified Welcoming Congregation, outspoken in our support of the LGBTQI+ community. We are working toward Green Sanctuary certification, having installed the first solar array in Lincoln Township. We offer a monthly environmental justice film series encouraging community discussion of grass roots efforts to care for our planet. We provide opportunities to live our values: Making and serving pizza at the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen, and tending to Emma Kinnard’s Fresh Start Children’s Garden at the corners of May and Pearl streets in Benton Harbor.
Your pledge of support is vital to BUUF’s well being. Any pledge is welcome and appreciated. Monetary pledges help us ensure our minister and staff is paid, lights and heat stay on, and the UUA giving rate is met. In-kind pledges can provide services that would otherwise be a church expense.
BUUF’s 2018 Annual Meeting is Sunday, June 3. In place of our usual Sunday service we will review our accomplishments for the past year, and look forward to the new church year. The 2018-2019 budget will be presented for congregational approval. Your pledge of support by May 1, 2018, will help the Board plan the new budget; however, pledges may be submitted at any time.
Next year Berrien UU will celebrate 60 years of liberal religious presence in this community, and 10 years of Jim McConnell’s ministry. We are small, but we are mighty. We are here for each other and we seek ways to make the world a better place.
